Selfie Sunday: 24 Fun Facts About Me

24th Birthday Fun Facts about me katsyxo

(Why does this Insta filter always make my lipstick look so weird?)

Happy Selfie Sunday! I turned 24 this past week, so I thought it would be kinda fun to do a quick fun facts about me to celebrate. I quickly realized there aren’t that many interesting things about me, though, so I probably should have titled this 24 Mildly Entertaining Facts About Me instead.

But I didn’t! So here are 24 fun facts about me that you didn’t ask for, but are getting anyway!

  1. I’m left handed, but also do weirdly a lot with my right hand. Like I write and eat left handed, but I throw, bowl, golf and a whole slew of other things right handed.
  2.  I have memorized practically every episode of FRIENDS. It’s kind of a requirement in my family. Otherwise you’ll be real confused on holidays.
  3. I’m 3rd generation (25%) Sicilian on my Dad’s side. Unfortunately none of the culture really stuck, which really bums me out. The Catholic bit stayed around, but I’m an atheist so…
  4. I studied abroad for 4 weeks in Turkey when I was in uni and I desperately want to go back some day.
  5. My patronus is a fox no matter what that bullshit quiz says.
  6. The Book Thief is one of my favorites books of all time and I’m afraid to re-read it because what if it’s not as amazing as I remember it?
  7. I used to run and swim competitively, which is kind of a depressing fact because nowadays I really suck at both. I’m trying to get back into running, though. Running a marathon is on my 30 before 30 list.
  8. I played flute and alto sax in high school.
  9. I played Quidditch for 1 semester in college as a Beater.
  10. My dream life would be to be able to work from my laptop so I could travel full time, moving from country to country every few months.
  11. My boyfriend Joe and I have been together almost 7 and a half years. He’s currently laying next to me playing Zelda and doing a really terrible job of helping me come up with fun facts.
  12. I can sing (almost) all of Again by Yui in the original Japanese. It’s the first opening to FMA: Brotherhood, one of the greatest anime opening of all time.
  13. Do people still know I’m a huge anime nerd? I haven’t talked about that in awhile. Fun fact: I’m a huge anime nerd. If you’re not into anime, but want to know what all the fuss is about you should start here.
  14. I took 3 semesters of Japanese in college. It didn’t go especially well, but I passed. I can sorta kinda still read hirigana, but I never got good at kanji.
  15. Time gives me really bad anxiety. I’m always acutely aware of how much time I’m losing driving to and from places, for example. And I’m perpetually late to everything because I try to squeeze every second out of everything I’m doing. I haven’t been able to find a name for this type of anxiety, but it has a serious impact on my daily life.
  16. I prefer television to movies. This is partially because of my anxiety about time–it’s really hard for me to sit down *knowing* this thing I’m about to watch is going to take 2+ hours out of my day. Obviously binging tv does the same thing, but it doesn’t make me anxious the same way because in theory I could stop after 1 episode.
  17. I’m writing an NA fantasy novel tentatively titled Courting Shadows. I’m pretty excited about it and periodically share updates on my Instagram stories.
  18. I’m terrified of snakes. This is not an invitation to send me pictures of snakes for lols. I will literally have a full blown panic attack–it’s a whole thing. Which is really unfortunate because I love hiking? But once I remember snakes exist I really start to panic and it ruins the whole thing.
  19. I have an English degree and yet have read very few of the typical “classics.” (But let’s be real, the English canon is mostly white male colonialist bs anyway.)
  20. I also have a History degree. I’m a Humanities Nerd™
  21. I have Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time practically memorized. Dump the manual and just invite me over; I’m just as useful and way more fun.
  22. I worked as a writing consultant for 4 years at my university and I loved it so much. I would so love to be an editor for a publishing house some day. I love working with writer to tell their stories and I really miss having the opportunity to do it every day.
  23. I’m a textbook Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and I don’t love it.
  24. I really want to dye my hair fun colors and get tattoos, but I’m too afraid to do it. I’m getting more and more antsy about it lately though, so who knows.

I hope some of those qualified as fun facts. Do I seem like a more or less interesting person after reading this post, I wonder? You’ll have to let me know, haha. And why not tell me a fun fact or 2 about yourself as well!

XOXO

As someone who has recently dyed my whole head of hair purple, I am fully on board with you going for it! Honestly, I am a shy person who suffers from anxiety. And worrying about other people (mainly other moms/my kid’s school staff) kept me from pursuing my fantasy hair dreams for a long time. I don’t really know why, but one day it just clicked that if someone is judging my competency as a parent or decent human being by my HAIR COLOR, that says waaaaay more about them than me. So I went for it, LOVE IT, and will never look back.

I don’t want that to sound pushy, obviously do what you are comfortable with, but I’ll be rooting for you if you decide to! Fuck what other people think! 😀

Also, I’m so glad there is someone else who was so pissed off at the Patronus quiz. My result could not have been more wrong. Blech.

    • Katie Conigliaro

Ahh oh my gosh are their pics floating around? I wanna see!

I’m not really worried about what anyone else would think to be honest, I’m just scared I’ll do it and then not like it haha. But my office doesn’t give a shit about hair color or tattoos and like you said fuck everyone else haha. But there’s a voice in the back of my head that keeps saying “you know it might not look as cute on you as it does on that girl on Pinterest” lmao. I also kinda want to get a snake bite piercing? Idk I’m suddenly realizing I’m at a point in my life where I could just go out and do anything and no one can stop me. Working on nailing down my own aesthetic or whatever, haha.

Fuck that quiz. I took it like 5 times and got different answers every time and none of them were right. I’m sticking with my foxy thank you very much.

      • Kay

Ha same! I took it three times and they were ALL WRONG. I’m keeping mine as a raven.

It’s great that your office doesn’t care! And I def had the worry that I’d hate it too, but hey, if you do, you can always change it again sometime! And yeah, if you want to see mine I have selfies on my personal Instagram –>https://www.instagram.com/lifeofkaynyman/

        Purple hair all the way!

  • B.

Just remember when it comes to hair, it grows back! It can be colored back to a natural/”normal” color too. It’s not permanent! I was terrified to cut mine short but it’s been the best thing ever! And I love being able to do fun colors. Just make sure when you ARE ready, to do your research to find someone who knows what they’re doing! Not all stylists are created equal!

    • Katie Conigliaro

I’m definitely getting better at this! I was terrified to cut it for the longest time and now that it’s short I can’t believe I ever wore it long, haha. And we’ve got a salon in my area that specializes in fun coloring which it great for when I finally work on the nerve to try!

  • I knew you went to Turkey but not for 4 weeks that must have been amazing. During my recent trip there I was so sad I couldn’t eat any of the food! I was living off of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs and crackers the whole time I was there. I was sooooooo sick from morning sickness. It was still amazing to go and see all the beautiful locations in Instanbul and to see my family and attend a wedding. I want to go back as well!

    • Katie Conigliaro

Oooh no! I think I remember you saying that now. Aww that sucks. Well when you start planning your next trip let me know–I have a whole list of fun places you should check out! (I’m a history nerd though so my definition of fun my be biased? Lmao)

      • As long as they totally kid friendly let me know! I want to go to Cappadocia for sure!
