I know I’ve been flailing about how hyped I am for Ace of Shades for months now. It may even be getting borderline obnoxious at this point.
Not even a little.
And honestly, what isn’t there to be hyped about?
Exhibit A: The Ace of Shades Book Cover
Isn’t is beautiful. Can we just take a moment to appreciate this cover? Like…really appreciate it. Imagine how gorgeous it will look on your bookshelves. Are you visualizing it?
Exhibit B: The Synopsis
Brace yourself. Once you read the synopsis there’s no unseeing it, and Ace of Shades does not get released until April 10. Come. Suffer with me.
Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…
and secrets hide in every shadow.
Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.
Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.
Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…
And she’ll need to play.
Exhibit C: It was Written by Amanda Foody
And Amanda Foody is an absolute treasure. I absolutely adored her debut, Daughter of the Burning City, and I have been so eager to jump back into her twisted mind ever since. If you haven’t read DotBC yet, you should probably add it to your TBR as well. Just saying.
DotBC established Amanda as a fantasy world-building force to be reckoned with, and a fantasy set in a place referred to as The City of Sin is so completely up my alley.
Basically, Ace of Shades is everything I love: a dark fantasy with morally gray characters living in an inherently corrupt city.
I rest my case.
What book are you currently most eagerly anticipating?
P.S. There is an awesome Ace of Shades pre-order campaign going and you can get a bunch of positively sinful perks!
